Standards
Editorial Policy
What you can expect from every page we publish.
Accuracy and sourcing
- Statements about the law cite a primary source — a statute, regulation, court rule, court decision or official agency publication — wherever one exists.
- We don’t invent statistics, settlement amounts or case stories. Examples are labeled as illustrations and computed with the same formulas as our calculators.
- Where rules differ by state, we say so and point to the state-specific source.
Review and updates
- Every page shows the date it was last updated.
- Pages are reviewed when the underlying rules change, and at least annually.
Use of AI and software tools
We use software tools, including AI, to help with research, drafting and code. A human editor reviews every page against its sources before publication and is responsible for what we publish.
Independence
We are supported by advertising. Advertisers, law firms and funding companies cannot pay for coverage, review content before publication, or influence our conclusions.
Corrections
If you believe something we published is wrong or outdated, please contact us. We review every report and correct errors promptly, noting significant corrections on the page.
